Drunk Techie Rams Audi into Autos in Mulund, Injures Four
In a disturbing incident reminiscent of a recent hit-and-run in Worli, a software engineer allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol crashed his Audi into two auto-rickshaws on the Eastern Express Highway in Mulund, Mumbai. The accident, which occurred early Monday morning, left four people injured and hospitalized.
Incident Details
Vijay Gore, 45, reportedly lost control of his Audi and rammed into an auto-rickshaw, causing it to collide with another rickshaw. The victims, two auto drivers and their passengers, suffered fractures and were immediately rushed to a nearby hospital. The condition of one of the injured is reported to be critical, while the others are stable.
Police Action
Following the crash, Gore abandoned his car at the scene and fled. However, the Mulund police quickly launched an investigation, using CCTV footage to trace his whereabouts. Gore was arrested at his sister's house in Kanjurmarg. His blood sample has been sent to the Kalina Forensic Laboratory for alcohol testing.
Legal Proceedings
Gore faces charges under relevant provisions of the Indian Justice Code (BNS) and the Motor Vehicles Act. His vehicle has been seized as part of the ongoing investigation.
Previous Incident in Worli
This incident mirrors a similar case in Worli, where a BMW driver, Mihir Shah, allegedly struck and killed a woman named Kaveri Nakhwa, who was on a two-wheeler with her husband. Shah was later arrested in Virar and has been remanded to judicial custody. His father, Rajesh Shah, and their driver, Rajrishi Bidawat, who are also implicated in the case, have been granted bail.
Conclusion
The Mulund accident highlights the ongoing issue of reckless driving and alcohol-related incidents in Mumbai. The police are committed to taking stringent action against those responsible to ensure road safety and justice for the victims.
